Gunnedah Support Group receive donation Jim Coombes, of Active Minds, presented members of the Gunnedah Volunteer Support Group with a cheque for $2,100. The money was donated following the sale of equipment from Preston Colliery which was closed in 1998. Nine other local charity organisations received money from the Preston Colliery Social Fund. Denman Volunteer Support Group Celebrate 25 years More than half a million dollars has been raised by the Denman Volunteer Support Group since it was founded by President, Norm Jones, 25 years ago. The group’s major event for the year, the Denman Horse Ride, has also celebrated 25 years of fundraising for the Service after a successful ride on 7 September. The 22km trail ride attracted more than 200 participants and raised more than $30,000. Volunteer Support Group member, Barry Atfield said the Service was very important to the local community. “W ith the mining, rural and horse industries here, as well as our sporting groups, we unfortunately use the Helicopter regularly. It is great to know that our Support Group is helping in making sure it is there when you need it,” he said. Teddy Bears’ Picnic takes out trivia gold It may have been the first trivia night the Singleton Volunteer Support Group had hosted, but it went off with a bang. The inaugural event brought together the most knowledgeable local minds, and the creative genius of supporters of the Ser vice who were encouraged to decorate their tables. Teams including Book Worms, Mad-Hatter’s Tea Party, Mexican, Poker, Hawaiian, Bra’s and Jocks, The Smurfs, NSW Blues and Disco, battled it out over eight rounds of trivia and numerous mini games for the gold. Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service representative on the night, Chrystal Burke, awarded the Teddy Bears’ Picnic best decorated table, while Bra’s and Jocks took out the coveted overall win. In the spirit of the night, the team donated their first prize back to the Service. The event raised $4,000 for the Service which couldn’t have been achieved without the support of more than 30 local businesses, including Club Singleton and Singleton Sound Audio who donated their services and facilities.
