For almost 40 years, miners throughout the four regions the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service operates, have understood the enormous value of their relationship with the Ser vice. Since the Ser vice was established in 1975, the mining community has dug deep in support of the Community’s Own, through individual donations as part of employees’ weekly pay packets, and many employers are now matching these donations dollar for dollar. Recently the Ser vice was given the opportunity to celebrate the support of an industry with whom it is intrinsically tied through a partnership with one of the region’s largest mines. Around 75 miners from BHP Billiton’s Mount Arthur Coal mine and their families descended on the Broadmeadow base for the unveiling of the company’s new Logo Rights Partnership. Service General Manager, Richard Jones, said that miners of the region were a valued and long-standing part of the Service’s community. “We are very humbled by the support of miners at Mount Ar thur Coal,” Mr Jones said. “The sector contributes enormously to the region’s Rescue Helicopter and we are most grateful for their ongoing contribution.” Mining community continues its support EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS Voice for Mining Day Each year miners and their employers contribute more than $1.4 million dollars to the Rescue Helicopter. This tradition began shortly after the Service began flying missions beyond the initial weekend beach patrols. Service Chairman, Cliff Marsh, said that the support of the mining sector was a long term and valued partnership that contributed enormously to the Rescue Helicopter.
