Northern NSW : Autumn 2013
Dr Maher ready for action By the time Thomas Maher is old enough to be a doctor on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter he might well be the most experienced person at the Service. At just six years of age his dreams of becoming a doctor on board the Rescue Helicopter are matched only by his impressive knowledge of the Service, its people and missions. Thomas who prefers to be known as Dr Thomas Maher, recently met Service staff at a charity event at Lake Macquarie and was thrilled when he and his brother Joseph were invited to visit the Broadmeadow base. Ready for action and full of questions Thomas arrived in his scrubs and carrying his first aid backpack (a gift from Santa) equipped with facemask, safety glasses complete with a Service logo and bandages. The Maher family was given a full tour of the base and aircraft inspection. His mum and dad said that the latest addition to his ‘practice’ (bedroom) is a sign on the door proudly stating the opening hours of the John Hunter Hospital.
