Northern NSW : Summer 2012-2013
For more than 20 years, the United Services Union (formerly known as the Municipal Councils Union) has been a strong supporter of the Service. On Friday 16 November 2012, the Tamworth base hosted the Annual General Meeting of the United Services Union New England Branch. Community Liaison Officer, Mick Wilson, said it was great to have the delegates on-site. ‘It gave us an opportunity to show them around the base and talk about our work throughout the region.’ The group was impressed by the Service and its work and is now looking at ways to promote the Service to its members. Held on Newcastle Foreshore on Sunday 4 November, the event hosted a convoy of trucks, semi-trailers, earth movers and tow-trucks. The convoy of 128 trucks left Sandgate fruit markets at 9am and travelled through Mayfield, Islington and along Hunter Street before setting down along Newcastle’s scenic foreshore strip. Chairman of Newcastle Transport Awareness Day Organising Committee, Tony McGrath, said that the event which was now in its 19th year had attracted more than 3,000 people and raised just over $100,000 this year for the Service.
