Northern NSW : Summer 2012-2013
Volunteers at work The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is fortunate to have people in the community who dedicate their time, energy and money to supporting the Service. Here is a snapshot of their work over the past three months. Denman gives The Denman Support Group presented Service Chairman, Cliff Marsh OAM, with $35,000 after another successful year of fundraising. The Group which holds the Horse Ride also held a bowls day in September. Our photo shows Group Members (back row) Barry Atfield, George Taylor, Joan Bennett, Eileen Mepham, Service Chairman Cliff Marsh, Rod Johnson, Lorraine Miller, Norm Jones, Bruce Hall. (Front row) Janice Scott, Terry Fenell, Mick Lacey, Daph Nicols. Tamworth Support Group Tamworth Support Group has added a further $20,000 contribution to the Service. The fundraising efforts of this group continue to provide exceptional awareness and support in the New England-North West. The Group also makes special thanks to Peter Owen from Blackwood’s Tamworth who has been a long term supporter of the Service and has donated many raffle prizes over the years. The most recent raffle leading up to Ag-Quip Field Day raised a massive $5,000. Perfect day all round The sun was shining and the conditions were perfect for the players who joined in the Barraba Golf Day earlier this year. Approximately 80 players participated in the event which was organised by the Barraba Lion’s Club raising $7,000 for the Service. Hot Auction The Gloucester Support Group has done it again! For the past 14 years this group of dedicated and committed volunteers has organised a dinner auction. In 2012, auctioneers Dick Walshe and Greg Ryan – with the assistance of Denver Webb – used their talents to generate more than $25,000 for the Service. Dinner coordinator, Lynn Slack, thanked the Gloucester community and the bidders who gave so generously on the night, as well as major sponsors AGL Upstream Investments. Taree tops-up donation Taree Support Group recently presented the Service with a cheque for $10,000. Backrowltor–John Taylor (Treasurer), Steve Rake, Des Constable, frontrowltor–Max Cathcart and Barry Owen (Chairperson).
