Northern NSW : Autumn 2011
31,000 reasons to smile: Singleton Chairperson Jayne Eather with the Singleton volunteers and Imperial Hotel manager Dean Russell present the $31,000 to Volunteer Coordinator Janine Chandler. Million dollar Bay! Nelson Bay Volunteer Support Group members were both surprised and excited to be told they had raised in excess of $1 million dollars when they made their annual cheque donation to the Service in December. Commencing in 1995, the group quickly grew into a highly skilled and experienced group of fundraisers, with their annual fundraising reaching $100,000 on many occasions. The group’s signature event, the Angel Billy Golf Classic, has been their most significant fundraiser over the years raising more than $418,000. Held at the Nelson Bay Golf Club, the event attracts a huge field of players and an enormous amount of support from the Moses Pro Shop and Golf Club staff as well as a large number of additional volunteers on the day. The Newcastle & District Doll Teachers Association have also been regular supporters of the group since 2000, donating proceeds from their annual Newcastle Doll Show held each September/October. To date, the association has presented more than $60,000 in support of the Service. The Nelson Bay Volunteer Support Group has to date donated $1,130,000.00 Tamworth Support Group has also pitched in, achieving a total of more than $ 385,000 since the group’s inception in 2000. This was recently boosted with the success of the annual Bush Balladeers Concert, which this year moved to the Kootingal Bowling Club and was deemed to be a great success.
