Northern NSW : Autumn 2012
‘Beast of an idea’ Tamworth Livestock Selling Agents banded together to promote ‘Tag a Calf’ day at their first weaner sale for the year in February at the Tamworth Selling Complex. Simon Burke of Burke & Smyth said that the initiative enabled vendors to donate all or a portion of their sale money to the Service. “The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is invaluable to the New England and North West and we want to do what we can to help keep it in the air” he said. Nine local agents supported the sale: Davidson Cameron McCulloch & Co; G&C Ray White; PittSon’s; Ian Morgan Livestock; Burke & Smyth; Elders; Chris Paterson; Landmark and Purtle Plevey Agencies. Tamworth Selling Agents auction beasts to raise money for the Service at their first weaner sale for the year at Tamworth Selling Complex Direct debit donations increasingly popular More and more people are choosing to donate to the Service via direct debit from their bank account or credit card. Similar to having money deducted from salary or wages, these types of donations are an important source of income for the Service. General Manager Richard Jones said that any donation of any amount is valuable to ensure the Service meets its commitments to the community. ‘ We are indebted to the people of the region for their continued support. Whether it’s a large annual donation, a raffle ticket sale or regular donations from pay or bank account, its all valuable to us’ Mr Jones said. He added that the Service does not send letters asking for donations, does not do door knocks and does not ring people asking for support. “ We’ve been donating via direct debit since 2001 because having lived in country towns we know how important the Service is”. East Maitland “I found out about direct debit donations from my employer and The sale day raised over $10,000 for the Service and is likely to be an annual event. It’s likely that a similar sale will be held in spring for sheep and lambs. For more information about Livestock sales for the Service contact Michael Wilson on 02 6764 9400 because I live down the road from JHH and have your helicopters over my house all the time, so I’m very aware of how busy the service is. When I hear them, I often think, ‘I hope that person will be alright’. So, I’m happy to give money every fortnight, to support this very worthy cause. You never know when you might need it yourself”.
