Audits confirm health of Service Miraculous recovery Peter Reeves sustained extensive spinal and rib injuries after falling two metres from his balcony in suburban Valentine on Lake Macquarie on 22 December 2010. Six vertebrae and 5 ribs were fractured. After being admitted to the John Hunter Hospital, he was flown by the Ser vice to Royal North Shore Hospital where he spent 2 months and then a further 3 months of rehabilitation at Ryde Rehabilitation Centre. Peter, 54 and a former plumber, visited the Base with his family exactly 12 months to the day of his accident to thank the Service and make a donation. He is extremely appreciative to everyone involved who helped him, from the Ambulance Officers who attended the scene and many doctors, nurses and other health professional who assisted his recover y. Peter is walking and has use of his arms and hands. His brother Jim, a lifeguard with Lake Macquarie Council, said the family always knew about the helicopter service but never, ever thought they would need to use it. Air Crewman Glen Ramplin with Adam Parer In the Winter edition of Rescue 2010 we repor ted on Adam Parer who was transported from a property near Gulgong to the John Hunter after plunging 6,500 ft due to a hang gliding incident. Its pleasing that Adam has recovered from his extensive injuries and has returned to shift work as a Senior Fireman at Hamilton Fire Station.
