Northern NSW : Autumn 2012
Audits confirm health of Service Front page photo: Westpac CEO Gail Kelly visits the Tamwor th base of the Ser vice and is seen with from left: Sean Maher Crewman, Trent Owen Senior Crewman, Stuar t O’Mally Pilot, Peter Cummings Crew Chief, Mike De Winton Chief Pilot, Dave Davies, Senior Pilot. Photo cour tesy of Westpac Our Service is undergoing a number of regular audits by third party organisations. This means that rather than claiming to comply with industry standards, the Service has taken a further commitment to safety, environment and quality by inviting accredited agencies for verification and certification. Third Party Certification gives the Ambulance Service of NSW, Department of Health, our community, sponsors, volunteers and staff the confidence that the Service is committed to delivering high standards of service while striving for zero harm to individuals and the environment. Importantly, the assessment is carried out by independent organisations that are qualified and licensed to issue certification when the assessment is successfully completed. Audit results have been ver y hear tening for everyone involved in the Ser vice. They have confirmed that we are going about our business in the best possible way. It is particularly reassuring to our region - the people who we transport, our Ambulance and Health Service par tners who fly with us and the people who suppor t us in so many different ways. My special thanks and heartfelt compliments go to our staff who have worked ver y hard to ensure that we have achi eved these levels of operational competence. Most of this wor k has been initiated and led by our Safety Manager Robert Jenkins who, over time, has laid these strong foundations for the Service. The Service has always had accounting audits as standard practice and these have been conducted annually by Price Waterhouse Coopers. Other audits that the Service has successfully under taken in the past 12 months are: • AviPro / Ambulance Service of NSW Audit - Obtained August 2011 • ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System – Engineering Obtained Feb 2009 • AS /NZS 4801 Safety Manag ement System - Obtained March 2011 • AS /NZS ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System – Obtained Dec 2011 Richard Jones General Manager What our donors say... “After moving to Fingal Bay from Penrith I now realize how important helicopter services are to people in the country. I don’t want to use the helicopter but I’m pleased to be able to provide a donation when I can to see the Service flourish”. Fingal Bay “I had a good tax return this year so I thought I would spread it around a bit. I know you rely on community donations and because I work in the construction industry I thought the Service was a pretty good choice for my support”. Carrington “No-one in our family has used the helicopter but it’s something that we support – we actually think everyone should support it because it’s such a valuable service for people like us who live in the country” Muswellbrook “On behalf of 8B at Taree Christian College, I’d like to thank you for all the lives that you have saved. I can imagine at times that you unexpectedly have to get ready to save another life. It would not only scare me but make me relieved that I just saved someone. I would like to say THANK YOU. YOU ARE APPRECIATED”. Taree “I’ve doubled my donation this Christmas because I am not buying presents. My grandchildren don’t need anything and besides they don’t say thank you anyway!!” Anonymous. “I would just like to thank you again for the hospitality shown to my family and I, by you and the boys during our visit this morning. I am honoured to be a member of the rescue club, and happy to help in any way that I can”. Valentine Page 2 Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service - Rescue Autumn 2012
