Northern NSW : Winter 2012 redo
More than 130 walkers trekked the 32 kms of sand between Newcastle and Port Stephens. Beach walk nets great result Steggles invests in community's nest Just four years ago a handful of friends tackled the 32 kilometre stretch of beach between Stockton and Birubi as a way of keeping fit and supporting the community. This year more than 130 people participated in the annual Stockton to Birubi Beach Walk in April. Scott and Karen Cooper, Neil Harvey and a group of adventure seekers "pioneered" the Stockton to Birubi Beach Walk in 2009 and following the fourth event have now helped to raise $100,000 for the Service. Karen Cooper said that the event had doubled in numbers every year and its success was due to the commitment of previous walkers and their friends and the support from Incitec Pivot, John Warren Transport, Caltex Maryland, Caltex Charlestown, Caltex Raymond Terrace North, the AWU, Orica and Australia Post. For Simon Camilleri and his family, supporting the community is as much their core business as providing premium quality chicken for Australian consumers. Along with supplying chicken throughout Australia, Baiada, through the Steggles Charity Nest, supports a range of local community organisations. A long term Logo Right Sponsor of the Service, Simon recently gave $10,000 from the Charity Nest. 'We have a long standing partnership with Rescue Helicopters in the Tamworth region, and this has now carried through to the Hunter region. A big thank you to Richard Jones and the Newcastle Knights players for visiting our Beresfield site recently. This provided a great opportunity for us to better understand how our contribution helps the local community,' Mr Camilleri said.
