High School champions Wingham’s ‘Ranginator ’ loses locks Cardiff remembers Quirindi cooks Michael Stocks loses his locks Photo courtesy of the Wingham Chronicle Quirindi High Students cater for 350 people at the Annual Dinner Dance in 2011. The annual dinner now in its 11th year is held on the Quirindi rugby field and is the Quirindi Volunteer Support Group’s major fundraising event for the year. On 30th June 2011 students and staff at Cardiff High School held a ‘Healthy Hear t for Ben’ Day. Ben Davis suffered from a heart condition and was flown by the Service from the John Hunter Hospital to Sydney for specialist surgery. Unfortunately Ben died 4 months later from infection complications. Ben’s sister, Ellie who is in Year 12 at Cardiff High organised the ‘Red Day’ with the help of the Student Representative Council and teachers. Students made a gold coin donation and sold apples to raise money. The day raised over a thousand dollars for the Service. Michael Stocks, a Year 12 student at Wingham High agreed to shave his head for the Ser vice after a 12 month amnesty on a haircut. After gaining sponsorship and donations from local businesses and individuals, Michael agreed to go under the shears in the quadrangle in June in front of the rest of the school. Local hairdresser Alana Clarke donated her time and clippers to push through the thick red locks. Another student, Josh Barwell and technology teacher Scott Brown also had their head shaved and between them raised $1,200 for the Service. Year 12 at Wingham has adopted the Service as its chosen charity for the year. Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service - Rescue Spring 2011 Page 7
