Wests Cycle Classic March 19-26 The Wests Cycle Classic has raised over $1 million dollars for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Ser vice! This year riders, sponsors and volunteers of the 16th annual Wests Cycle Classic raised more than $xx x taking the total amount raised to $xxx since the ride was established. Ride Captain, Bernard Corbett said this is a fantastic achievement for all who have been involved with the Cycle Classic over the years. “$1 million is a huge milestone and is going to a great cause, we should all be very proud,” he said. More than 50 riders set off down the coast covering over 470 kilometres of road, gravel, causeways, hills and rough terrain. The ride started from Bonny Hills and ventured all the way back to the Helicopter Base at Broadmeadow via Wingham, Gloucester and Dungog. “The ride was challenging and great, we had good weather and beautiful surrounds. It was a week that everyone really enjoyed,” said Bernard. The event was supported by Wests, TESA Mining, Port Waratah Coal Services, Centennial Coal, Vale, Martins Stock Haulage, Law Transport and Consultant Ser vices, Sutton’s Transport, State Forest and many more. Special Events Coordinator, Justine Rochow said the event would not be as successful without the support from our sponsors and volunteers, “Our support crew is fantastic , one in a million.” I love those hilly undulations A terrain of up and down Of seeing new hills in the distance And greeting each one with a frown I love it when the ride’s over Of stopping and looking back I don’t love the pain in my thighs Or the tenderness of my crack I love the challenge of doing it Though those hills I hate to see Four more days of torture This undulating land and me A poem By rider Steve Gaul Riders gearing up for the 2011 Cycle Classic at the Broadmeadow Base.
