Northern NSW : Rescue Autumn 2017
for Rescue Helicopter New era Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service celebrated the commencement of its new joint partnership with NSW Ambulance in March 2017 to operate the Northern Zone of the NSW Helicopter Retrieval Network. Under the new contract, the Service will operate four AgustaWestland 139 (AW139) helicopters manned by a team of highly experienced pilots, crew, doctors, nurses and paramedics. The team will deliver world class care for communities from north of the Hawkesbury River right up to the Queensland border. The AW139s provide improvements in speed, range and endurance and support advanced patient care through many on-board features such as the special ‘zero lift’ arms to assist moving Newborn Emergency Transport Service (NETS) cribs. The Rescue Helicopter was established in 1975 as a weekend beach patrol and, through community support and fundraising, became a critical service that operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week. The costs to run the Service in 2017 are jointly funded by the NSW Government, corporate partnerships and community support. The contract has also seen the amalgamation of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter in Lismore with the Hunter and New England based Service.
