Northern NSW : Summer 2017
Get your copy As Mildred Makes a Difference grows in popularity it’s important to remember the little people who helped along the way. Young children from NurtureOne Tamworth Children’s Centre were instrumental in hearing about Mildred’s early adventures when the book’s authors Michael and Mel Wilson were developing the concept. Their twin boys Ben and Tom attend the child care centre. Michael is a Community Liaison Officer with the New England North West Service while Mel is a primary school teacher at Calrossy. The idea behind the book came while the Wilson’s read bed-time stories to their boys who needed Air Ambulance assistance when they were born in 2012. So it was only fitting to organise a special visit to see the Rescue Helicopter at the Tamworth base. Thanks to Station Officer Shane Harris the young guests were able to tour the hangar and meet a pilot and a paramedic to find out more about the important work the Service does. A special highlight was trying on the crew’s helmets, vests and jackets. The children continue to enjoy reading about the adventures of Mildred Makes a Difference during their regular story time at the Centre.
