Northern NSW : Celebrating 40 years Rescue December2015
Grand parade kicks into gear A CONVOY OF 109 BIG RIGS MADE ITS WAY FROM SANDGATE TO NEWCASTLE VIA INDUSTRIAL DRIVE AND HONEYSUCKLE DRIVE TO MARK THE BEGINNING OF THE 2015 TRANSPORT AWARENESS DAY AND NEWCASTLE TRUCK SHOW ON SUNDAY 1 NOVEMBER. The convoy was met by Newcastle’s iconic Marching Koalas, who led the rigs to Foreshore Park where they joined more than 60 market stalls, exhibitions, music and entertainment, a live broadcast from the breakfast crew at NewFM, and heaps of fun stuff for the kids. Transport Awareness Day Chairman, Pete Black, said the event was highly successful. ‘We expected about 50 big rigs to be part of the parade and show. But to have twice the number enter and compete for honours in 15 categories was a great result. ‘Importantly, it also demonstrated how important safety and road transport is to our industry and the community. By working together and promoting the sector we can keep our roads safe,’ Mr Black said. Since it was established in 1992, Transport Awareness Day and Newcastle Truck Show has raised more than $900,000 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
