Northern NSW : Celebrating 40 years Rescue December2015
Volunteers at Work Muswellbrook’s Black Coal Cup golf day on 15 September was one of the most memorable community days to date with many individuals and companies getting behind the event to ensure its success. These included the Lioness Club, Muswellbrook Retired Miners and Muswellbrook Men’s Shed. Organisers and participants commented on the ‘positive vibe’ that surrounded the day. Many new companies came on board this year and have already booked their participation for 2016. The schools that take part means so much to the day’s success and the children were delighted to get a visit from one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and a Minion. Schoolchildren were also treated to ice-blocks and flavoured milk courtesy of Barry Fraiser Dairy Farmers. Domino’s Pizza handed out vouchers and the schools also received official NRL footballs supplied by Home, Timber and Hardware. Children (and adults) were able to meet and get autographs from Newcastle Knights players Jarrod Mullen and Jeremy Smith and inspect the Bell 412 Aircraft with Chief Pilot Mike de Winton and Standardisation Crewman Todd Mulville. It was great to see Drayton Lodge 4 team of Steve Nicol, Craig Tuckwell, Brady Benkovic and Brad Kane with a score of 53 7⁄8 take out the cup this year. The Lodge has been a great supporter of this event for the 16 years it has been running. A big thank you to all the businesses that supplied auction items, trophies, food for the breakfast and barbecue and the meals for all the volunteers. The day would not be possible without the dedication and the many hours the volunteer group puts in. Congratulations to Margret and Joe Matthews, and their family and fellow organisers.
