Northern NSW : Celebrating 40 years Rescue December2015
Businesses show true colours The New England and North West business community has been commended for its collective support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service in the knowledge that vital funds raised from recent major fundraising events will stay in the region. Tamworth’s Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre was the venue for the Show Your Colours event attracting about 2000 participants. They were enthusiastically covered in a range of powdered colours along the five- kilometre fun run last month. The Service’s Regional Marketing Manager Lisa Thomas said that 100 per cent of registration fees and proceeds from the day will remain in the New England-North West area. ‘Th is explosion of fundraising colour could not have happened without the backing from local businesses,’ Ms Thomas said. The event gained major support from 360 Fitness Club, which staged a warm-up attempt at the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest Zumba party. Other supporting local businesses included Telstra Shop, Virgin Australia, Lorna Jane, Rapid Response Team, Farrer Agricultural High School and Calrossy Anglian School who came on board as zone sponsors. NBN, Radio 92.9, 2TM, Ibis and CH Hotels, Tamworth Regional Council, Carey’s Freight Lines, Tamex and Switchback Events were community sponsors. In September, Armidale’s University of New England also hosted a Show Your Colours event with an estimated 1,200 fun-runners turning out on Father’s Day. Major sponsors included UNE Sport, Austin College, Radio 92.9 and 2TM. Armidale Park Run, NEGS Armidale and PLC Armidale provided zone sponsorship with community support coming from Radio 2AD, NBN, the Armidale Express, Switchback Events, The Pub Group, Macsound Electronics and Theatrical Supplies. The business sector also rallied behind Tamworth’s Altitude 40 Ball celebrating the Service’s 40-year anniversary. About 620 guests attended the sold-out affair, which was held at the picturesque Tamworth Lookout on Saturday, October 10. Naming Rights Sponsors were Single Builders, Tamworth Tile House and Pulse Kitchens. Major sponsors included Avro Metal Land, Insurance House, Priority Business Lawyers and Bishop Collins, Pacific National, 360 Fitness Club with Telstra Business Centre and Virgin Airlines, Prestige Marquees, A1 Hire, NBN, 92.9, The Pub Group providing community sponsorship. ‘Collectively, these events helped raised about $100,000. They are such a huge logistical exercise to organise and we are so grateful for the support shown from our local businesses who really understand how vital the Service is to our communities,’ Ms Thomas said. Since the Rescue Helicopter began operating from its Tamworth base 15 years ago in partnership with NSW Health and the business community, about 2,500 people from across the North-West region have received urgent medical treatment. The Service has experienced a significant increase in missions since a doctor-paramedic team joined the Tamworth-based crew in early March. In order to meet the growing demand, it now operates 24/7 with four pilots and four air crew. ‘Now more than ever we need ongoing support from the communities we serve in order to help keep this valuable search, rescue and medical service in the air,’ Ms Thomas said.
