THE WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER SERVICE IS FORTUNATE TO HAVE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO DEDICATE THEIR TIME, ENERGY AND MONEY TO SUPPORTING THE SERVICE. THERE ARE 34 VOLUNTEER SUPPORT GROUPS WITH MORE THAN 700 MEMBERS SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE REGION WHOSE FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES INCLUDE EVENTS, RAFFLES AND FUNCTIONS TO HELP ENSURE THAT NO ONE EVER HAS TO PAY TO BE RESCUED BY THE SERVICE. Hitting the heights Tamworth's Oxley Lookout was the venue for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service's Altitude Ball on 10 October. Billed as 'an evening with the stars' it certainly lived up to expectations. Upwards of $60,000 was raised from the event, which will help enable the Service's New England--North West operations to continue critical and world-class activities. Steggles Fun Fair a winner More than 1000 people turned out for the Beresfield Steggles Shop's great Fun Fair on 19 September in support of the Rescue Helicopter. It was a terrific family day with a tasty barbecue, face painting, vintage cars, and amazing specials on chicken. There was also a chance to win a $500 voucher from the Good Guys East Maitland. Clearly a success Armidale City Bowling Club was the place to be on 29 August for the 2015 Ruby and Crystal Gala Ball. The Armidale Support Group went above and beyond this year, with more than 280 guests attending to show their support for the Service. Now in its 15th year, the Armidale Ball is always a great night, and 2015 did not disappoint with entertainment by Top Shelf and Mike Rabbitt the MC for the evening. The event raised $10,000 for the Armidale Support Group, which is a fantastic effort! First iStadium hits the road Congratulations and thank you to the organisers of the inaugural iStadium Run, which was held on 10 and 11 October this year across inner-city Newcastle suburbs finishing at Hunter Stadium. Hundreds of runners entered the 5km, 10km and half-marathon events. Sandy stroll Congratulations to Scott and Karen Cooper and their families for the successful seventh annual Stockton to Birubi Walk on 24 October.
