Northern NSW : Rescue - Summer 2014
40 years of missions for our communities Cover photo courtesy of Peter Grimmond The Service is about to celebrate 40 years of flying rescue and aero-medical retrieval missions. The basis for this success lies in the aspirations and determination of community minded people who imagined just how effective a rescue helicopter could be and step by step brought a whole community to that thinking. It is the community that has made the Service what is it today – one of the most respected in the country. This status has been achieved not by the Service alone but by the many and intertwined partnerships that ensure people in our regions are as best protected as possible. I encourage you to browse the sponsors listed in Rescue and to note the many individuals and groups who feature in the stories. Some were not even born when the Service began, but like those who created it they have learned to value what it does for our communities. I am sure you can well imagine the resources that must be applied to make this Service effective in the NSW health care chain. Yet regardless of how extensively these resource needs have grown our community has always helped ensure that no-one who has ever been air-lifted by a rescue helicopter has had to pay. Thank you! Those who will need the Service in days to come will benefit from your continued support. We are extremely proud to have won the NSW WorkCover Safety Leadership Award recently. While it is easy to focus on the aircraft and the missions to difficult locations we are very aware that none of this is possible without professional and thorough behind the scenes systems. The summer holiday period is our busiest. People are out and about, travelling and spending time at their favourite leisure pursuits. Enjoy and please take care. We would be happy if this year it was not so busy. I wish each of you a very happy Christmas and successful 2015.
