Northern NSW : Rescue - Spring 2014
This year's Singleton Trivia Night was a great success with 245 trivia players at Club Singleton for an event that provided $6,600 boost to the local Volunteer Support Group's annual fundraising efforts. Teams embraced the challenge by decorating their tables based on a designated letter of the alphabet - with the "Superhero Squad" crowned the winners. Singleton Volunteer Support Group secretary, Danny Eather said the combined generosity of the community made the event a success once again. 'From the businesses and individuals who donated prizes, to Club Singleton for providing the usage of the auditorium free of charge and Singleton Sound Solution for assisting with the audio equipment,' he said. 'The importance of the Rescue Helicopter was highlighted by a couple of our guests on the night. Twelve months ago a motorcyclist had an accident on the infamous Putty Road which required airlifting to the John Hunter Hospital. His parents shared his story with us. Thankfully their son has since made a full recovery and coincidentally on the day of the Trivia Night, he took his first trip back down the Putty Road on his motorcycle, without incident,' Mr Eather said. The recent Gunnedah Poultry Club's Purebred Poultry Auction surpassed the records of its previous six years with more than 60 vendors selling 355 lots of poultry including pigeons, ducks, turkeys and chooks of many varieties. Vendors from as far as Mt Isa, Coonabarabran and Scone banded together in support of this fundraiser for the Gunnedah Volunteer Support Group. Seven vendors donated their pens which were auctioned on behalf of the Service, raising $6,500. Stock and Station agents, Garvin and Cousens also donated half the money raised through pen fees and commissions, and its staff donated their wages for the day adding a further $2,800 for the Service. Gunnedah Volunteer Support Group Chairperson, Pam Bradford was thrilled with the result and credited the generous support of the poultry industry and wider community.
