Northern NSW : Rescue - Spring 2014
Forgacs began donating to the Service through payroll deductions in September 2013. The scheme was something that Elle Edelman and Benny Hill were both instrumental in rolling out at all Forgacs’ sites and encouraged as many employees to get behind it as possible. ‘ Developing ties with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service is a simple but effective way of giving back to the local community and enabling people to feel good about what they’re doing,’ Elle said. ‘ We all live and work in the local area and everyone understands the importance of the Rescue Helicopter.’ For Benny, working onsite drives home the value of the community’s own Rescue Helicopter. ‘T he simple fact is that on any given day someone in the extended Forgacs family may need the Service to save a life.’ ‘T h is was really highlighted earlier in the year when one of our workers was involved in an accident and the Rescue Helicopter was brought in to help.’ Forgacs recently held its annual open day. See page 8 for more details. Talk about a slow-down in the mining industry has not changed the benevolent nature of our region’s miners. Service Chairman Cliff Marsh said that the Service owed a great deal to the generosity and support of miners and their employers. Coal & Allied has been a supporter of the Service for more than 15 years. It is a logo partner of the Rescue Helicopter and contributes significantly through its payroll deduction scheme. Glencore is also a logo rights sponsor of the Rescue Helicopter and has been a supporter for more than 15 years. As well as contributing through payroll deductions, Glencore sponsors the Rescue Helicopter’s crew and pilots to attend overseas simulator training in world class facilities.
